While on a budget, we often cut ourselves off from all the fun stuff. But listen—treating yourself is important! It keeps you from overspending in moments of burnout. Everything is good in moderation, right?

When you’re in debt, anxiety can run high. Let’s talk about ways to relieve that financial stress while still staying on track with your goals.

Here are some low-cost ways to treat yourself during your debt payoff journey.

1. Go Out for a Coffee

We may not indulge in coffee shop trips often, especially when $6 for a latte feels like a splurge. But sometimes, you deserve it. Invite a friend, take a book, or just enjoy some quiet time. It doesn’t need to be an everyday thing—just a little something special for you.

2. Set Up a Date Night In

Whether it’s for yourself or someone else, a cozy night in can be magical. Light a candle, pick a favorite movie, and treat yourself to dessert from your grocery trip. Add a glass of wine or a cup of tea and savor the moment.

3. DIY Spa Night

Transform your home into a spa with a bubble bath, a face mask, and a fresh coat of nail polish. It’s a simple way to pamper yourself without breaking the bank.

Grab a pair of these under eye masks (they’re my fave on a budget!) or my favorite epsom salt soak. You won’t regret these, I promise! Spa on a budget.

4. Do an Online Yoga Class

Yoga is great for mobility, flexibility, and mental clarity. Choose a free class online, roll out a mat (or towel), and take this time to focus on the present. It’s a gift to both your body and mind.

This is my favorite way to relax and feel accomplished all at the same time! Hate sitting on the couch? This is such an easy way to move your body in a relaxing way.

5. Visit Your Local Library

There’s something nostalgic about the quiet hum of a library. Browse the shelves, pick a book, and lose yourself in its pages. Plus, it’s completely free!

Have you heard of Libby app? Sign up for your library’s virtual library card and get the same books on your iPad! Tip: if your library doesn’t offer this, there are some major city libraries you can sign up for that do.

6. Go Thrifting

Like shopping but for less! Thrifting is a great way to look around your local town and see what they have to offer. You may have some great finds for a much lower price than the department store.

7. Manifest Your Goals

Create a vision board! Cut out pictures, write down affirmations, and dream about your debt-free future. Manifesting can feel empowering and help you stay focused on your goals.

Vision boards are super easy, and the best time investment! Think what your life may look like this time next year. Use Pinterest collage as a virtual option, that’s the easiest tool I’ve found. And then, set it as your phone background. Relaxing AND inspirational.

8. Plan a Sunset Date

Pack a simple picnic, head to the park, and watch the sunset. Take your dinner outdoors and enjoy the views you might miss in your day-to-day routine. It’s a grounding way to relax and recharge.

Take a picture, maybe even use it on your vision board.

9. Go on a Walk

The easiest of them all. Get outside. In the mornings, getting sun is great for your mood and circadian rhythm. In the afternoon, it’s a great way to decompress from a long day at work, in front of the computer, or a long day of customer interactions.

10. Half-Price Movie Night

My favorite one! Some theaters offer discounted tickets on certain nights. For example, my local theater has half-price Thursdays, and it’s my go-to treat! Check your local listings and enjoy a night out for less.

Treating yourself doesn’t have to derail your budget. It’s all about finding joy in small, intentional moments while staying committed to your financial goals. You deserve it!
